Installing Your New Garage Door

Installation Steps
In order to install a new garage door, you’ll need the right tools (tape measure, power tool, etc.), an instruction manual, a friend or relative to help you, a few thousand dollars, and 8 to 12 hours of free time.
Warning; the springs can be dangerous when removing as they are under a lot of tension, so please be careful.
Ensure the panel is level and secure before moving on to the next panel. You can secure each panel by nailing the sides into the wooden jam. Also, ensure each panel is properly attached to the panel below it before moving on to the next.
Each garage door is different, so be sure to follow the instruction manual supplied with your garage door.
- You’ll need to remove your old garage door, starting with the springs at the top of the garage door.
Warning; the springs can be dangerous when removing as they are under a lot of tension, so please be careful.
- After carefully removing the springs, remove the panels, piece by piece.
- Now, remove the rest of the hardware and the tracks. It’s important to remove the old tracks and use new tracks that are provided with the new door. This will prevent injuries and any possible damages.
- Before installing your new garage door, be sure to inspect the jams and frame. If it’s in good condition, don’t worry about replacing it.
- Start with the bottom panel. Screw in the hinges first, then the brackets. After you secured the hardware into place, you can place the panels in, one by one.

- Next, install the rollers on the top and bottom of each of the panels.
- Install all other hardware (brackets, springs, hinges) into your new door.
- You’ll need to remove the nails from the jam before finishing the project.
- You’ll also need to add tension to the springs. You can do this by tightening the screws that hold the springs. Please be sure to follow the instruction manual as a safety precaution.
